Food. Off the record.

The things we think about food. The things we do with it. And the things we rarely say out loud.

After more than twenty years in private practice, Monique Etkind has heard what happens behind the healthy intentions. The skipped lunch. The promise to be good tomorrow. The person who can manage a business, a family and everyone else’s needs, but still feels defeated by food. With warmth, humour and an experienced eye, Monique opens up conversations that help people understand themselves and see everyday eating differently.

The conversation starts where people recognise themselves.

Monique’s expertise is the foundation. Her perspective is the reason to invite her.

What we don’t say about food.

“I know what to do. I just don’t do it.”

What sits behind that sentence? Monique explores the gap between knowing about food and living with it: the rules we inherit, the stories we tell ourselves and the expectations we carry into every meal. It is an honest conversation about why eating can feel so complicated, and what becomes possible when we understand our relationship with it.

When did food become something to fear?

The darker side of diet culture, and what happens when “being healthy” leaves you anxious about eating.

Good foods. Bad foods. Cheat meals. Clean eating. Earning your dinner. What sounds like everyday diet talk can turn eating into a constant test of character. A meal becomes something to get right. Enjoyment comes with guilt. And confidence gives way to second-guessing. Monique explores the misconceptions that make people distrust their appetite, question their choices and feel that struggling with food means something is wrong with them. With warmth and candour, she asks: how much of this anxiety have we been taught, and what would it take to feel more at ease with food?

A different way into the same honest question.

Each topic can be shaped for the room, the audience and the conversation already waiting to happen.

  1. 01Women and everyday life

You’ve fed everyone. Have you eaten?

When did taking care of everyone else become a reason to leave yourself out?

Coffee counts as breakfast. Lunch happens over the sink. Dinner is whatever is left after everyone else has eaten. Monique talks about the food habits that form when you become the organiser, the carer and the person who will sort herself out later, and how to make room for yourself without creating another job.

    Discussion points
    • How caring for everyone can make your own needs disappear.
    • Why “I’ll eat later” becomes an everyday pattern.
    • What it means to include yourself at the table.

  2. 02Workplace

Your calendar is running your diet.

Meetings get a booking. Lunch gets whatever’s left.

We talk about performance, focus and looking after ourselves. Then we build working days with barely a moment to eat. Monique explores the collision between workplace expectations and everyday food, and asks what happens when eating becomes something we squeeze in only after everything else is done.

    Discussion points
    • The food habits a demanding workday quietly creates.
    • Why the biscuit tin deserves a closer look at the day that came before it.
    • How leaders can make eating a normal part of work.
For Workplaces, leadership events and business podcasts.Guest brief
  3. 03Men and busy adults

Why does Monday always need a new you?

Another fresh start. Another ambitious plan. Another ordinary week getting in the way.

Monique unpacks the appeal of the reset: why capable, determined people keep returning to plans that depend on life behaving perfectly. It is a conversation about ambition, food and learning to keep going when the week stops cooperating.

    Discussion points
    • Why we keep designing plans for our most motivated selves.
    • How one difficult meal becomes a reason to abandon the week.
    • What continuing could look like without another dramatic restart.
For Men’s health events, business audiences and podcasts.Guest brief
  4. 04GLP-1 conversation

    Your appetite changed. Life didn’t.

What happens to your relationship with food when hunger feels different?

Family dinners, work lunches, holidays and celebrations continue when appetite changes. Monique explores everyday questions around eating alongside GLP-1 treatment: what feels different, what still needs attention and what people want to ask their treating team.

    Discussion points
    • Appetite, enjoyment and the social place of food.
    • The habits and expectations that may remain when hunger changes.
    • Everyday food questions worth bringing into clinical conversations.
For Health podcasts, moderated panels and professional events.Guest brief
  5. 05Founder story

Can you put twenty years of listening into an app?

A food plan is one thing. Understanding the person using it is another.

When Monique and Stacey Key built meforme™, they faced a question: how do you carry the experience of a consulting room into someone’s everyday life? Monique shares the choices, tensions and lessons behind turning a practitioner’s method into a digital health program.

    Discussion points
    • What years of listening reveal that a food plan alone cannot capture.
    • What needed to travel beyond the appointment.
    • Building with a co-founder who brings a different set of skills.
For Founder podcasts, digital health events and innovation panels.Guest brief
  6. 06Practitioners

Your patient understood every word. What happened next?

The advice made sense in the room. Then life happened.

Monique explores what sits between a useful consultation and the next appointment: family expectations, familiar routines, difficult days and decisions made in a hurry. It is a candid professional conversation about making advice usable in the circumstances where people actually eat.

    Discussion points
    • What agreement in the consulting room tells us, and what it leaves unanswered.
    • The everyday situations a plan needs to survive.
    • How understanding someone’s patterns can shape the support we offer.

What people tell a dietitian when nobody else is listening.
